Dancers should be enthusiastic about movement, open to learning new techniques, and ready to explore various dance forms.

Dance Exploration is a fun, engaging program that introduces young dancers to the basics of ballet while incorporating elements of other dance styles, such as jazz, contemporary, and traditional dances from around the world.

The focus is on developing dance technique, rhythm, flexibility, and coordination in a supportive environment. Each session includes exercises to build ballet skills, explore other dance styles, and learn about cultural expressions through dance.

Dancers will develop foundational ballet skills, including proper posture, coordination, and body control, while improving flexibility, strength, and rhythm. They will gain confidence in movement and be introduced to various dance forms, expanding their understanding of dance as a means of cultural expression.

By exploring music and rhythm, dancers will cultivate an appreciation for the creative and expressive aspects of dance. Additionally, they will have opportunities for self-expression and collaboration, dancing alongside peers in a supportive and encouraging environment.

  • Class Structure

    • Warm-Up and Stretching (10-15 minutes)
Begin each class with a gentle warm-up to prepare the body for movement, focusing on stretching and flexibility. Dancers will learn how to properly stretch, develop body awareness, and improve posture.
    • Ballet Technique Practice (25-30 minutes)
Core ballet skills are introduced and developed here, including basic positions, footwork, arm movements, and balance. Each week builds on foundational ballet techniques such as pliés, tendus, jetés, and relevés. Dancers will work on improving their form, alignment, and fluidity in movement.
    • Exploration of Other Dance Styles (10-15 minutes)
In this segment, dancers are introduced to elements of other dance forms, allowing them to explore rhythm and movement variety. Styles may include:

      • Jazz – Basic jazz steps with a focus on rhythm and energy.
      • Contemporary – Flowing, expressive movements that contrast with the structure of ballet.
      • Cultural Dances – Introduction to dance traditions from cultures around the world, such as flamenco, hula, and African dance.
    • Cool-Down and Reflection (5-10 minutes)
The class concludes with a cool-down, including gentle stretching to prevent soreness. Dancers are encouraged to reflect on what they learned, sharing their favorite movements or styles from the class. Reflection helps reinforce learning and encourages a positive experience.
  • Ongoing Themes and Rotating Focus

Each month, the class will incorporate a specific focus or theme to add variety and depth to the curriculum:

    • Month 1: Ballet Basics & Posture
Focus on fundamental ballet techniques, understanding body alignment, and learning basic foot and arm positions.
    • Month 2: Rhythm & Jazz Elements
Explore rhythm and timing through jazz dance basics, learning fun steps like jazz walks and leaps.
    • Month 3: Storytelling Through Dance
Introduce expressive movements to help dancers tell a story, drawing from contemporary dance.
    • Month 4: World Dance Exploration
Introduce a new cultural dance style each week, highlighting the history and cultural significance of each dance form.
    • Month 5: Balance & Control
Emphasize core strength and balance, integrating ballet movements that challenge stability and control.
    • Month 6: Creative Dance & Improvisation
Encourage dancers to experiment with their own movements and create short routines, allowing for personal expression and creativity.

The themes repeat in a cycle, with new techniques, exercises, and cultural dances introduced each time to ensure ongoing learning and growth.
