Suitable for scholars of all ages who are interested in exploring a new language and cultures around the world.

The Learn Reading program builds essential reading skills through structured lessons that focus on phonics, sight words, reading fluency, and comprehension. Scholars will progress from reading simple words and sentences to handling short, age-appropriate chapter books. This course is adaptable to the readiness and pace of each scholar, covering the first 20 lessons of a comprehensive 80-lesson curriculum.

Scholars will strengthen their letter-sound recognition, developed foundational phonics skills, and built a strong sight word vocabulary. They will be able to read and understand simple sentences, show improved fluency, and begin reading short chapter books with guidance. Additionally, scholars will be able to discuss basic story elements, aiding comprehension and retention.

  • Weeks 1-2: Letter Review & Phonics Basics
    • Reinforce letter recognition and sounds for all consonants and vowels.
    • Begin blending simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words (e.g., “cat,” “dog”).
    • Activities: Phonics games, letter-sound matching, and blending exercises.
  • Weeks 3-4: Short Vowel Sounds & CVC Words
    • Focus on short vowel sounds in CVC words.
    • Introduce sight words commonly found in early readers.
    • Activities: Sight word bingo, CVC word sorting, and sentence building with CVC words.
  • Weeks 5-6: Consonant Blends & Digraphs
    • Introduce common consonant blends (e.g., “bl,” “st”) and digraphs (e.g., “ch,” “sh”).
    • Practice blending words with these sounds.
    • Activities: Digraph matching games, blending exercises, and reading simple sentences.
  • Weeks 7-8: Long Vowel Sounds & Silent E Rule
    • Introduce long vowel sounds and the silent “e” rule.
    • Continue building sight word vocabulary.
    • Activities: Silent “e” word-building, reading simple stories, and identifying long vs. short vowels.
  • Weeks 9-10: Sentence Reading & Simple Comprehension
    • Begin reading full sentences and understanding basic sentence structure.
    • Practice comprehension by discussing who, what, and where in simple sentences.
    • Activities: Sentence sorting, guided reading of short stories, and comprehension questions.
  • Weeks 11-12: High-Frequency Words & Fluency Practice
    • Focus on high-frequency words to build reading fluency.
    • Practice reading with expression and understanding punctuation.
    • Activities: Flashcard games, fluency drills, and reading short passages aloud.
  • Weeks 13-14: Story Structure & Simple Chapter Books
    • Introduce story elements: characters, setting, and plot.
    • Begin reading short chapter books, focusing on comprehension.
    • Activities: Story mapping, character description exercises, and reading a short chapter book together.
  • Weeks 15-16: Review, Reading for Comprehension, and Progress Assessment
    • Review all phonics rules, sight words, and vocabulary learned so far.
    • Engage in guided reading sessions to practice comprehension and fluency.
    • Activities: Group reading, comprehension games, and individualized progress assessments.

About Me

My name is Evangeline Aymond. I believe that every child has the potential to learn and grow; they just need the encouragement of a patient guide to nurture the inherent love of learning that is inside of all of us.

I’ve been using the Learn Reading curriculum for four years and truly believe in its ability to help every child become a confident reader.
