Suitable for scholars who possess enthusiasm for learning a new language, willingness to participate in speaking activities, and an open-minded attitude toward other cultures.

This introductory Spanish course focuses on foundational vocabulary, pronunciation, and simple conversational phrases. Each week covers a new theme, with interactive activities, songs, and games to reinforce learning and build confidence in speaking Spanish.

Scholars will gain foundational conversational skills in Spanish, including basic greetings, introductions, and essential vocabulary. They will be introduced to elements of Spanish-speaking cultures, fostering an appreciation for diversity. Through interactive exercises, scholars will build confidence in speaking, listening, and understanding simple Spanish, establishing a solid foundation for future language learning.

  • Weeks 1-2: Introduction to Spanish Language & Basic Greetings
    • Learn the Spanish alphabet and pronunciation.
    • Practice greetings, farewells, and simple introductions.
    • Activities: Alphabet song, role-playing greetings, matching words with visuals.
  • Weeks 3-4: Numbers and Colors
    • Learn numbers 1-20 and basic colors.
    • Practice using numbers and colors in sentences (e.g., “Tengo dos hermanos”).
    • Activities: Number bingo, color scavenger hunt, and color-by-numbers in Spanish.
  • Weeks 5-6: Family and Friends Vocabulary
    • Introduce vocabulary for family members and friends (e.g., madre, padre, amigo).
    • Practice simple sentences about family (e.g., “Mi madre es amable”).
    • Activities: Family tree project, drawing family members with labels.
  • Weeks 7-8: Days of the Week, Months, and Weather
    • Learn the days of the week, months of the year, and weather phrases.
    • Practice talking about birthdays and seasons.
    • Activities: Weather journal in Spanish, creating a monthly calendar, weather role-play.

Weeks 9-10: Animals and Nature Vocabulary

    • Introduce animal names, especially common pets and wild animals.
    • Practice simple sentences about animals (e.g., “El gato es pequeño”).
    • Activities: Animal matching game, animal sounds and names activity, nature scavenger hunt.
  • Weeks 11-12: Food and Simple Restaurant Phrases
    • Learn basic food vocabulary and phrases for ordering food.
    • Practice expressing likes and dislikes (e.g., “Me gusta el queso”).
    • Activities: Restaurant role-play, creating a “menu” in Spanish, food flashcards.
  • Weeks 13-14: Daily Routines and Common Actions
    • Learn vocabulary for daily routines (e.g., waking up, eating, playing).
    • Practice forming simple sentences (e.g., “Me levanto a las siete”).
    • Activities: Creating a daily schedule in Spanish, role-play describing a day.
  • Weeks 15-16: Review and Cultural Exploration
    • Review all vocabulary and concepts learned throughout the course.
    • Introduce a few simple songs, games, or stories from Spanish-speaking cultures.
    • Activities: Interactive games reviewing vocabulary, Spanish song sing-along, cultural showcase.
